Beach boys

Murugan & friends were fantastic. I first set my sights on them when we noticed a group of boys huddled together in a tight circles surrounded by kites under tiny pebbles. On watching on, we observed as they stirred a red mixture in a plastic can prepping it for the spool of thread in hand. And my fears were confirmed.

They were making manja. How was I to take Sunday pictures without the fear of a slit throat?

But curiosity got the better of me and we walked up to them. They let us look at their secret technique. With a tiny piece of plastic paper, they coated the white thread with the red mixture of flour and glass. And then quipped one of them "newspaperaa?".

We told them we were students and that we were taking pictures for fun. But they had other plans in mind. "We'll show you what we can do", they offered. And then the madness began.

10 of them, all younger than 16 we suppose are from Dhidirkuppam. And the go to school. But when they're not studying and flying kites and helping around the house, they are practicing summersaults and karate.

Murugan's even leant a few moves to the likes of movies liek Aayiruthil Oruvan and Pollathavan. And in my books, he's more of a hero. Unfearful, undaunted and determined to give us their best, for a whole hour, he and his friends put up one of the funnest shows ever.

Way to take centerstage boys!
It was a well spent Febuary 14th.
